Portfolio review- Rachel Brown

Rachel Brown reviewed my work in one of my feedback sessions. I chose Rachel as I thought she’d be a good match to feedback my work and having not seen it before, I wanted a different opinion on it.

The key feedback and advice she gave me:

  • Colour palette heightens the surreal aspect of the work

  • Confrontational aspect to the gaze- plays with the audience’s perception of what’s real and what isn’t.

  • There’s a playful aspect- the iron, hangers and egg images are almost sinister and show a form of danger and pain- egg smashing, hair burning from iron, hangers pulling hair.

  • Strong political themes

The points and insight that Rachel gave me was very helpful and it made me see my work in a different way, and notice things that I hadn’t considered before. This is something that I will want to explore and experiment with in the future to follow on from this project.
