Using LinkedIn

I have been looking at LinkedIn and want to enhance my profile and networking on this. I looked at the podcast and blog post by Olivia Bossert where she goes through how LinkedIn can be used efficiently as a freelance photographer.

The key points she gave were:

  • Post updates on work

  • Share content on a regular basis

  • Professional content

  • New work

  • What the shoot was like, more info about it.

  • Share industry news

  • Make sure your profile photo, bio and tagline are effective and relevant.

  • Engage people in your posts- involve people in it to answer a question or ask for opinions etc so that people comment and your post gets seen by more people.

  • Engage and comment on other people’s posts in order to get the same back.

  • Messaging people who you think would be interested in your work, message them- it’s another way of pitching yourself.

  • Let it suggest connections, it automatically finds people- connect with people in your circle first (friends, coursemates, colleagues etc).

The advice given by Olivia is important for me to improve my online networking skills and I am looking to improve my LinkedIn profile and engage more with it in a professional way. I have used this to enhance my profile and have posted a few things relating to my journey and practice (such as skills or portfolio images in progress) that potential clients and employers would want to see.

I have found LinkedIn to be a very important tool in networking and it has become a key part in my online presence as a photographer and in a professional sense too.
