Guest Speaker 15- Amelia Lonsdale- The Pupil Sphere

Amelia Lonsdale came in as another guest speaker and told us about the Pupil Sphere which she is a writer and researcher for as well as the director.

The Pupil Sphere is a creative network that supports current students and graduates all over the world. I am aware of this platform already as I have seen various articles and events on it which Amelia went through in this talk. Amelia told us how important it is to keep the creative network going and help each other as much as possible, particularly in the current times of covid.

Amelia gave us advice on how to submit to competitions and good practice for this:

  • First impressions mean a lot

  • Always read and stick to submission guidelines

  • Research and know where you’re submitting to- the platform and whether it fits your work

  • Keep on top of emails

  • Ask for help and make sure that you are aware of what is connected to your name online- be aware of what you post.

  • When submitting work, get friends/family/followers to share it on their own platforms to get it seen more.

  • It’s a good idea to have your name on your socials so you’re easy to find; key words, online engagement.

I found this helpful as I am looking at various competitions to submit my work to and I will take into account these tips from Amelia.

She also went through Pupilsphere and the different things you can submit onto it: project photos, books/zines and essays/articles.
